Professional Tax in Telangana

Telangana's professional tax slab is a straightforward three-tier structure — and, for a specific historical reason, it's identical to Andhra Pradesh's.

The short answer

Nil up to ₹15,000/month, ₹150/month from ₹15,001–₹20,000, and ₹200/month above ₹20,000 — a flat ₹2,400/year maximum, no February adjustment.

The slab, month by month

Monthly salary Monthly PT
Up to ₹15,000 Nil
₹15,001 – ₹20,000 ₹150
Above ₹20,000 ₹200

Why it's identical to Andhra Pradesh

Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. Both states inherited the same undivided-AP Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1987, and neither has amended its slab structure since — so the two states still charge exactly the same professional tax today. See professional tax in Andhra Pradesh for the identical table, confirmed independently.

Who's liable

Every salaried employee earning above ₹15,000/month is liable, with the employer deducting and remitting on their behalf. Self-employed professionals, traders, and businesses are separately liable under the same Act via their own enrollment — not modelled by this calculator, which covers salaried employees.

Payment and filing

Deducted monthly from your payslip. Employers typically remit the deducted tax and file returns monthly, commonly by the 10th of the following month — confirm your employer's exact cadence with Telangana's Commercial Taxes Department if you need the precise date.

The ₹2,500 cap, in context

Telangana's top slab (₹200/month, every month) totals ₹2,400/year — under the Article 276(2) constitutional ceiling of ₹2,500, with no February adjustment. Compare this to Karnataka, which deliberately structures a higher February deduction to land exactly on ₹2,500.

Worked examples
